Weird Science

So recently i've been listening to alot of eighties music, bands like Blondie, Talking Heads, Kate Bush, Journey, Max Carl, Dead Or Alive, General Public ect. Basically i've fallen in love with the decade of music that ended a mere two years before i was born. Up until recently i never really cared much for eighties music, but then i watched a film that changed all that...Weird Science.

Weird Science is an awsome eighties teen comedy written and directed by the late John Hughes, who sadly passed away a week or two ago. The film's basically about two geeky unpopular high school kids in America, Gary and Wyatt (Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith), who create their perfect woman (Kelly leBrock) using a computer. Lisa, the name they give her, then makes it her mission to get gary and wyatt popular among their high school friends by pushing them into various social situations, such as taking them to a blues bar and throwing a party for everyone at wyattts house. The film ends with gary and wyatt being accepted by their fellow class mates and falling in love with the girls of their dreams, deb and hilly.

So to conclude, i like totally LOVE this film. Not only has it got me into eighties music, but also other films by Hughes such as 'The Breakfast Club' and 'Ferris Buellers Day Off'.

My favorite songs off the soundtrack are Oingo Boingo's 'Weird Science', which is the theme song to the film and is just plain awsome, 'Eighties' by Killing Joke (Even if the main riff does sound a hell of alot like a sped up version of the riff in 'Come As You Are' by Nirvana. Im not implying that Nirvana copied it, just that it sounds very similar). Why Dont Pretty Girls (Look At Me) by Wild Men Of Wonga is another highlight, aswell as Max carl's power ballard 'The Circle'. But my favorite song from the film has to be 'Tenderness' by General Public. You can hear it in the background when gary drops off deb close, to the end of the film. Something about that song puts me in a real good mood, whether it's the keyboard melody at the beggining or the awsome lyrics such as "Words are cheap but they can turn out expensive". I Love it.

So here's the soundtrack and if you havn't already seen 'Weird Science', go get it.
